EggHeads Premier League mid-week predictions

Leicester v Brighton

If I’m being honest, it wasn’t surprising to see Leicester part ways with Claude Puel, it was their fifth loss in their last six games and they haven’t won a game in the Premier League since New Year’s Day – crazy I know!

They were thrashed by Palace at the weekend in what can only be described as a humiliating defeat. I expect a response though, I’m not sure the manager had much favour in the dressing room and usually, the first game after a manager is sacked or when a new one comes in a team lifts its spirits (even if it is just for that game) 

Brighton needs to be careful, they are slipping down the table and they are slipping quick. I think they will ultimately get dragged into a relegation scrap as we head toward the end of the season, I’m not sure they’ll end up going down though.

Prediction: 2 – 1

Huddersfield v Wolves

Wolves should win this with relative ease. Huddersfield were absolutely rinsed by Newcastle, they never looked like they were in that game from the start. The Terriers sit rock bottom of the table and with a minuscule tally of just eleven points I think those fans know they’ll be playing Championship football next season.

Prediction: 1 – 2

Cardiff v Everton

This is a massive game for Cardiff. Their hopes of remaining in the League took a massive blow on Friday as they were handed a 5-1 thrashing by Watford. That defeat would have taken the stuffing out of them so I’m not too confident in the response they are capable of giving here.

Everton hasn’t exactly been producing football of the highest standard but while they are still in the hunt for a Europa place, they have everything to play for.

Prediction: 1 - 1 

Newcastle v Burnley

This could be quite an exciting game. Burnley are consistently looking more and more like their old self whilst Newcastle looked superb against Huddersfield. Rafa Benitez’s men have newfound attacking attitude to their play, which impressively hasn’t exactly compromised their defensive stability.

I think both teams find the net but I’m going to side with Newcastle to steal a closely contested game of football.

Prediction: 1 – 1 

Southampton v Fulham

Southampton could have put some daylight between themselves and the relegation zone on Sunday after Cardiff’s defeat on Friday, but if we are being honest, they were never expected to go to the Emirates and get anything.

I think the reality is setting in at Fulham and the Cottagers are beginning to accept their relegation fate…for Southampton though they need to win this. When you look at who the Saints are playing in their upcoming fixtures you soon realise this is a massive football match for them.

Prediction: 2 – 1  

Arsenal v Bournemouth

Arsenal has once again managed to find a way into the top four. Their 2-0 win on the weekend has given them a one-point cushion in the Champions League spots, and when you look at the injuries United have suffered the race for top four seems to be opening up.

Arsenal should win this, Bournemouth have major injuries to their starting line-up and Arsenal know how to put mid-table teams away. Arsenal haven’t lost a game at the Emirates since City visited on the opening weekend, and so I expect that impressive record to continue here.

Prediction: 2 – 0 

Manchester City v West Ham

City have won the first major trophy of the season as they beat Chelsea on penalties in the Carabao Cup final, but now their attention must go back to the League. City like to dominate possession of the ball, it seems as though if you are able to disrupt their flow and not allow them to settle, they become a little frustrated and get impatient.

That seemed to be what Chelsea managed to do for 120 minutes on Sunday, but I can’t see West Ham managing to do that. Once City get the bite between their teeth its curtains.

Prediction: 4 – 1 

Liverpool v Watford

This could be a banana skin game for Liverpool, they have to win this football match and against a confident Watford side it could prove to be an incredibly tough feat. Granted, Watford doesn’t usually perform against the League’s top six sides but with nothing to lose and a bit of confidence they could have a go at Liverpool here.

Liverpool will be without Roberto Firmino but even still I think they pose a really dangerous attacking threat. You have to go with Liverpool here but I would do so cautiously…

Prediction: 1 – 0   

Chelsea v Spurs

It must be tough to be a Spurs fan. Every time they look like they are putting some serious pressure on Liverpool and City they bottle it. Surely, they have to be the ultimate ‘chockers’ of the Premier League?

You would never guess this considering the media coverage of Maurizio Sarri and Chelsea, but they have only lost one home game all season. I guess that’s because they currently sit 6^th on the table and have been terrible on the road coupled with the fact that it appears as though their entire dressing room is falling apart.

I wouldn’t be surprised to see this end in a draw, but I’m going to go for the away win simply because of the battle the Blues faced on Sunday (both on and off the pitch).

Prediction: 1 – 0  

C Palace v Manchester United

Palace finds themselves in 13^th place on the League table after a tough opening portion of the season. The Eagles are unbeaten in four League games and I suspect they are going to test a battered United squad.

United have massive injuries all over the place – which really has come at the worst time for them – Palace will have a go and I think they could cause a massive upset here! Especially playing at Selhurst Park.
