This weekend the shores of Durban will host sizzling beach volleyball action in the form of The Eon Consulting Volleyball South Africa Beach Open at New Beach from 27-29 September 2013.

This is the second of three national events which are being staged at New Beach in 2013. The contest will see SA’s finest male and female beach volleyball talent battle it out for a spot in the FIVB City of Durban International Open this December.

The tournament, which is hosted by beach volleyball promoters Geness Consulting and Volleyball South Africa, will boast top men’s team favourites Jerome Fredericks and Leo Williams (Cape Town) as well as the respected combination of Freedom Chiya and Grant Goldschmidt (Cape Town). The female teams to look out for will be Randy Williams (Cape Town) and Palesa Sekhonyana (Gauteng), as well as Judith Augoustides (Cape Town) and Kirsten Pocock (Gauteng).

The top 44 teams will not only be fighting for valuable points, but also for a piece of the hefty prize purse of R65 000.

Beach volleyball promoters Geness Consulting and Volleyball South Africa are passionate about growing the sport through development clinics. Ahead of the weekend’s festivities, KZN schools where invited to a volleyball development clinic at the beach. The clinic consisted of professional coaching tips by top SA players, as well as an opportunity to play tournaments against each other.

The weekend’s beach volleyball action promises to offer great family entertainment with crowd prizes, food, drinks, a kids zone, night games, music and sand building activities.

The free public viewing makes this event a must-attend family activity in Durban. The event is powered by Eon Consulting, New Africa Inks, eThekwini Metropolitan Municipality and South African Breweries.
