Duminy, Piedt and Van Zyl bolster Cobras

Fresh from Proteas duty, JP Duminy, Dane Piedt and Stiaan van Zyl will give the Cape Cobras more venom for their Momentum One Day Cup clash against the Sunfoil Dolphins.

The Cape Cobras will be looking to consolidate their position on the top of the Momentum One-Day Cup log standings when they resume the second half of the competition against the Dolphins at Newlands on Friday.

After five rounds of Sunfoil Series action, and before that the RAM SLAM T20 Challenge, the 50-over competition is back to take centre stage for the next month.

The Cobras top the table alongside the Warriors - both on 14 points - but with just six points separating top from bottom, the results of all five remaining regular-season games will be vital.

Paul Adams, coach of the home team, has highlighted the importance of hitting the ground running.

"It's an important phase, the final phase of this competition and it's important for us to kick-off well in order to stay where we are," he said.

"It's all about playing pressure in this competition when it reaches these latter stages. A lot of the time you're keeping your eye on the log, you're concentrating on what's going on in other games, so there's plenty of distractions.

"That's why it's so important for teams to focus on their basic skills and what they need to do. That's what we'll be trying to do."

Proteas Stiaan van Zyl, JP Duminy and Dane Piedt are all available for the Cobras, while young all-rounder Jason Smith, who made his Sunfoil Series debut last week, is also in line for his debut.

The visitors are bolstered by the return of captain Morne van Wyk from a wrist injury, while Ryan McLaren, David Miller and Imran Tahir are in line to feature.

Khaya Zondo and Andile Phehlukwayo are away on South Africa 'A' duty, along with Dane Vilas and Wayne Parnell of the Cobras.

The Dolphins are fifth on the table, five points behind the Cobras and coach Lance Klusener said: “There’s not much difference in the points between a few of the teams but we’re trying to get a home final and so we want to win five out of five or whatever it takes.”
