South Africa A will start the final day of their first four-day clash with India A on 312 for 9.
The hosts are replying to 582 in Rustenburg. JP Duminy is out for 84 and Rilee Rossouw 57.
Thami Tsolekile and Justin Ontong were both dismissed for 47. Dean Elgar made just 11.
Kyle Abbott is undefeated on nine.
This is the first of two four-day matches.
Meanwhile, New Zealand batsman, Jesse Ryder, has been given a six-month suspension.
Ryder tested positive for banned stimulants earlier this year.
He was viciously assaulted just days after the test and needed ICU treatment for his injuries.
