Dolphins triumph at exciting Umthunzi Cup

The Thursday afternoon T20 was rained out, however both sides were able to get out onto the Port Shepstone Country Club for 18 holes of golf on the Friday before heading their separate ways after the activities.

Over the two games that took place the Dolphins won the first 50 over clash by 58 runs and then followed up with a three wicket win the following day.

The Hollywoodbets Dolphins coaching staff were encouraged to see players showing some good pre-season form ahead of another two jam-packed four-day and fifty over campaigns for the Dolphins.

In the first game of the Umthunzi Cup the Dolphins batted first and racked up a defendable 290 for six in their 50 overs.

Cody Chetty and Eathan Bosch starred with the bat. Chetty scored 81 batting at three while Bosch chimed in with 63 batting at seven.

In reply the Knights could only manage 232 all out. Bosch once again showed his pre-season form bagging six for 35 in nine overs. There were also wickets for Daryn Dupavillon, Kerwin Mungroo, Keith Dudgeon and Calvin Savage - securing a 58 run victory for the Durban side.

In the second game a day later the Knights batted first and notched up 267 for the loss of six wickets in their 50 overs.

Lwandiswa Zuma and Prenelan Subrayen both picked up two wickets each while Okuhle Cele bagged the other one to go with a run-out.

Mangaliso Mosehle led the Dolphins charge with the bat scoring 97 not out as he helped steer the ship home.

Marques Ackerman was also in good form, the left hander scored 63, as the Dolphins snuck across the line by three wickets.

Umthunzi Hotel and Conference General Manager Ryan Ringo was delighted that the South Coast town of Port Shepstone could host two of the country’s top franchises again.

“We are extremely grateful to be considered as hosts once again,” Ringo said. “This event is hugely significant for the Port Shepstone Country Club and for the people of the region.

“We very rarely get to see professional cricketers in these parts and so to have the Dolphins and the Knights down here is great for building awareness for the people of the region.

“The mini cricket tournament that took place on Wednesday could go a long way in us finding the next David Miller down the South Coast!”
