Craig Alexander starred with the ball and Imraan Khan with the bat as the Sunfoil Dolphins closed day three of their Sunfoil Series clash against the Knights with victory in sight at Sahara Stadium Kingsmead in Durban on Saturday.
Fast bowler
Alexander first collected an impressive 6/60 as the visitors slumped from their
day two score of 143/2 to 218 all out, a deficit of 157.
Opener Khan then struck an unbeaten century – 106 (155 balls, 14 fours) – as the hosts declared on 224/3, setting the Knights a victory target of 382.
Alexander again excelled with the ball and was one of three wicket-takers to leave the Central Franchise tottering on 22/3 at stumps.
It capped a fine day for the home side and it all started with Alexander’s excellence as he collected the 14th five-wicket haul of his career.
The Knights lost their last eight wickets for just 75 as Michael Erlank, unbeaten overnight, top-scored with 66 (174 balls, 9 fours).
Rudi Second with 54 (138 balls, 4 fours, 1 six) was the other man standing after day two, but once they fell, their side easily folded in 78.1 overs.
The Dolphins then scored at just over four to the over allowing for the quick declaration. Apart from Khan’s 19th first-class ton, Vaughn van Jaarsveld hit a brisk 54 (63 balls, 9 fours, 1 six).
That left the Knights 11 overs to face and they lost the wickets of Reeza Hendricks (1), Erlank (4) and Shadley van Schalkwyk (0) to go to stumps in a hole with 360 still needed for victory.
Alexander ended with 1/6, Rabian Engelbrecht 1/5 and Keshav Maharaj 1/9.
