Dlamini taking on ‘daunting task’ at AmaZulu

It was announced on Wednesday that Ayanda Dlamini will take over at the helm of AmaZulu Football Club on a three year contract following his solid period as interim manager that saw the Durban-based club survive the Premiership relegation battle.

His post-lockdown record saw him guide Usuthu to five draws and a loss which was enough for the side to finish thirteenth in the league, but more importantly, high enough to fight another season in the nation’s top flight.

General Manager of AmaZulu Lunga Sokhela made no bones about the difficulty of the job at hand but he mentioned that the club will back their new manager as he looks to get the club into a more comfortable position.

“It is a daunting task managing AmaZulu Football Club,” Sokhela said. “It’s not going to be easy but we are confident that Ayanda has what it takes to grow into the role here.

“We will support him in his role fully and having someone who understands the ethos and meaning here at the club will help in him making the role his own.”

From his days as a player at the club ‘Cobra’ is hoping that he can use that experience in getting the club into a better position, this is despite his lack of experience as a top-flight manager.

“Having been here for years as a player and understanding the culture I have to make sure that I work hard here to try and bring the happy days back for the club.

“I want to thank the management who have given me this chance to lead such a big club as we all know.

“This is a massive opportunity for me as young as I am in terms of coaching and I am looking forward to the challenge ahead with AmaZulu,” he added.

The logistics around the new season haven’t been finalised yet and GM Sokhela is hopeful that they will be back to some form of normality in the new season.

“The bubble was very difficult for everyone especially being away from home and family for such a long period of time.

“We are hoping that this season will not have to start in a bubble because it comes at a huge financial cost for clubs but everyone will want to be able to have the comfort of home and family.

“This, however, all depends on what level the country is in terms of lockdown so we will have to wait and see what happens,” Sokhela commented.
