Crystal Palace coming to South Africa

Crystal Palace are on their way to South Africa. The Premier League side will take part in the Cape Town Cup on July 26 and 28.

The tournament will feature Palace, Ajax Cape Town, SuperSport United and Portugal’s Sporting Lisbon and will be played over two days comprising of two double-headers.

The first day will see SuperSport take on Palace at 17h45 in the first semi-final while Ajax play Sporting at 20h15.

All matches will take place at Cape Town Stadium.

"We’re very excited to be here. We know we have many fans in South Africa and we want to create many more," said Palace Chief Executive Phil Alexander. "We are not coming here to make up the numbers. We’re coming to win the tournament. We’ll be bringing over our first team as part of our pre-season preparations."

SuperSport CEO Stan Matthews said the tournament was a fantastic opportunity for local players to excel on an international stage.

"It’ll be really good for our players to test themselves against the best in the world," he said. "If ever there was a time for them to impress and try and secure something positive in their careers, like a move to Europe, then this is it."

Palace, under the guidance of manager Alan Pardew, finished 10 th in the Premier League this season while Lisbon finished third behind Benfica and FC Porto.
