Cricket Wife - Sarah Smit
Updated | By Andre Bloem
Daryn Smit has played for the Hollywoodbets Dolphins for several years. Smit is a former Dolphins captain and has batted, bowled and kept wicket for the KZN franchise.
Today we meet his wife - Sarah Smit.
We caught up with Sarah and asked her a few questions.
1. What is your favourite sport and why?
Crossfit - I love pushing my body to its limits and seeing what I can physically manage to do within a certain time frame.
2. What’s ONE thing most people don’t know about your partner?
Although Daryn has never smoked cigarettes or drank a cup of coffee in his life, he is convinced that coffee tastes like cigarettes.
3. Are you always on the side-lines watching your partner when he plays?
No! I am often a supporter from afar as I work full-time.
4. Do you have any pre-match rituals or habits?
We don't have rituals as such, but Daryn and I speak before every match and I wish him luck and he always messages me after the toss to let me know which way it went.
5. What do you love most about your partner’s sport?
My favourite part about cricket is that it is a game the whole family can enjoy. I love seeing young and old people down at the ground, picnic blankets laid out and deck-chairs set up, spectators enjoying the sunshine and quality time with loved ones and all the kiddies with their mini cricket sets having a whale of a time.
6. What do you like least about your partner’s profession?
The time spent away from home.
7. What’s your favourite day of the week and why?
I adore Sundays. It is a day where I can reflect on the week gone by and plan for a new week ahead. I try to get to church as often as possible, then its off to the shops to get the groceries for the week and then I always spend a few hours at home with my two fur babies just chilling out and catching up on me time.
8. Any story or anecdote you’re comfortable sharing about your partner in relation to their profession?
I always try to remind Daryn that no matter how the game turns out, win or lose, to always remain humble and remember that he is living a life that others only dream of. So many young talented players never get an opportunity to showcase themselves and it would be naive as a professional to think that you are bigger than the game.
