Couta action off Zinkwazi

Couta action off Zinkwazi

Anglers have enjoyed good couta success off Zinkwazi over the past week.

North - Cape Vidal is still producing yellowfin tuna and dorado. These fish are being caught on the 30m mark. Further south at Maphelane there have been decent Natal snoek catches, mostly on sardine fillets and Strike Pro Magic Minnows. There have also been decent sized kingfish on the shallow reefs which are taking most live baits and the occasional Rattler trolled over the reef.
Zinkwazi down to Tinley Manor has produced couta in far better numbers this week and better size too. Wala-Wala and bonito have worked very well over the last week, producing fish up to 27kg. When targeting bigger couta, good quality trebles such as Mustad 9430A and strong wire such as AFW No.7 should be used and nothing less than a Number 8 Power swivel.

Central - Umdloti to Durban has seen good fishing over the last week with numerous wahoo and tuna being caught, particularly on the Kingfisher Rattler.

South - Bottom fishing has been good from the Bluff down to Scottburgh. There have been numerous catches of yellowtail from Durban all the way down into the Transkei region, which have fed off bottom traces. When targeting these strong fish, nothing less than 1mm nylon trace line should be used.

Reminder - Imperial Nissan Zululand Couta Classic at Mtunzini on 25 and 26 April 2015.
