Comrades Marathon 2016 road closures

Durban motorists will want to take note of the following road closures during the 2016 Comrades Marathon on Sunday, May 29.
The 2016 instalment of the Comrades Marathon is a 'down run', from Pietermaritzburg to Durban.
The race starts outside the Pietermaritzburg City Hall and finishes at Durban's Sahara Stadium Kingsmead.
Some roads in Pietermaritzburg will be closed on Sunday morning from as early as 4am.
The gun starting the gruelling race will ring through Alexandra Street at 5.30 on Sunday morning.
The road will be closed from 4am to 6.30am.
Market, Ritchie and Washington roads will be closed from 4.30am with most open again by 7am.
The iconic Polly Shortts and Ashburton stretch will be inaccessible to motorists between 5am and 8.30am.
Runners will then make their way to the Halfway mark at Thousand Hill Drive which will be closed from 6.45am to 1pm.
Old Main Road in Kloof and Fields Hill in Pinetown are likely to be closed all afternoon.
