Coach slams Amazayoni defence
Updated | By Nondumiso Zakwe
Amazayoni lost 2-0 to the Brazilians in the R7-million competition clash at the Mbombela Stadium, thanks to second half strikes from Teko Modise and Themba Zwane.
Sakala was left fuming after the match and singled out one of his defenders, Siboniso Gumede, for costing his side the chance to advance to the Ke Yona semi-finals.
''I am very disappointed with a loss, especially when it comes to one of our defenders. Always and always, he keeps making the same mistake all the time,'' Sakala stressed.
''I'm so disappointed with his performance whereas the rest of the players were working hard for the team. He took things easy at the back and he was always casual. That ball, he should have held it and take it out, then organise the defence. He should have gone for safety first but he came in and wanted to dribble at the back knowing that he was the last man,'' he added.
Amazayoni will now switch their focus back to the Absa Premiership where they take on the struggling Maritzburg United at home on Wednesday.
Sakala admitted that his charges cannot afford to drop more points at this stage of the season as they intend to move further away from the relegation zone.
''Lets now look forward to the league games; we have lost the cup now. And at least this loss will give us more time to prepare for the upcoming league game on Wednesday.
We really need three points at all costs; we cant afford to drop points now. But we needed this (Nedbank Cup) most, but there is nothing we can do now. We just need to improve from our silly mistakes at the back,'' he said.
The clash between Aces and Maritzburg is set to commence at 7:30 pm.
