Blue Lagoon pompano and grunter
Updated | By Kingfisher
We have been told of good pompano and grunter fishing at Blue Lagoon over the past week.
The north banks of Blue Lagoon have had good reports of pompano, grunter and kingfish. Grunter have been taken on small baits in good weather conditions and the gamefish such as kingies have been taken on spoon and drop-shot mainly.
Durban Piers have quietened down somewhat, only producing smaller fish on sardine, cracker and chokka. Local pompano specialists have managed to put a few pompano on the pier, however these have been few and far between. Beaches seemed to be much more productive over the last week, with more catches of pompano and grunter. Many smaller shad are being landed on baits and spoons and are being targeted off the piers in the mornings.
Illovo has been properly worked over the last week and produced plenty of grunter and pompano.
Umkomaas has seen shad, kob of the smaller variety and some brown skates. Most fish have been landed on the outgoing tide.
Scottburgh Point has produced a few diamond rays, shad and smaller shark species. Point has been producing more fish than the bay area of late.
Port Shepstone through to Trafalgar has been keeping spinning enthusiasts busy with kob on paddletails, with the lure of preference being the McCarthy Olive Deceiver 5" paddletail fished on a 1oz jig head.
Splash Rock has produced a few kob on baits and paddletail too, with some surprisingly good sized fish this early in the season.
