Kosi Bay – Still having lots of fun with smaller edibles as well as some big GTs. The non-edible anglers have been stretched by blackfins and the odd big Zambezi. The lakes are still fishing well with some good catches of grunter. Late evening sessions have also seen one or two pompano and the odd reef fish near the ledges.

St Lucia/Cape Vidal – Reports are of lots of shad activity and the sizes have definitely increased. The St Lucia river mouth area also saw some small kob, while an angler on the beach caught a nice sandy of about 30 kilos.

Richards Bay – Rumours abound of plenty of flat fish such as browns and diamonds being caught off of the beach. Anglers have taken to paddling out big baits in search of big sharks which have been all too happy to take the baits.

Nonoti – There are still some good catches of sand sharks at this now popular spot. The edible anglers also landed two beautiful pompano of over 5 kilos. One of these fish was caught on a Poseidon Gold Class rod with a DAIWA SL30 Reel. Kingfisher Giant Abrasion 9.1 kilo stood up to the test while this fish was being fought in the shore break.

Zinkwazi – Has seen a lot more activity with regards to number of anglers as it is a quiet spot away from the madding crowds. Earlier in the week two sand sharks came out whilst some evenings there were also some bigger spinner sharks. Edible anglers using whole mackerel slide-baits have also landed the odd big shad of just under 6 kilos.

Umdloti/Ballito – Saw some good action in the evenings with big spinner sharks, yet when these fish were pinned as swim baits nothing took them. There were also some brown skates caught on Tuesday evening and Thursday night saw a few stumpnose also coming out.

Umhlanga – Reports received from customers is that this area is very quiet and this is possibly due to the low frontal system which moved in towards the end of the week. A somewhat unknown area called the Block was on fire over the weekend with plenty of sand sharks being caught.

Virginia/Beachwood – With a nice hole off Virginia which is well within range, many anglers have tried their luck here. Mixed reports as some anglers say they have had pulls but lost fish. The only confirmed fish was a small grey shark of approximately 8 kilos and some undersized shad.

Blue Lagoon – It seems that word does definitely get around, as Blue Lagoon North bank has been fished a lot more in the past week. Anglers using the Rapala Maxrap have caught a number of shad over 4 kilos, whilst two GTs of 9 and 16kgs were also caught here during the week.

Durban Piers – With warmer water the anglers on the piers have had to endure a lot more of the smaller bait fish and due to no shade have been restricted to fishing early morning and late evenings. There have been some grunter, stumpnose and skates all coming out on Snake Park and the New Pier by the hotel.

Durban Beachfront – Still a tricky spot to fish due to the late sunsets and bathers are making use of the extra time to swim. Anglers should just endure some patience until 6 o’clock when the lifeguards usually call the bathers out. The beachfront is fishing well with some good catches of skates and pompano at Thekwini Beach. Ray Thompson landed a beautiful eagle ray of approximately 60 kilos on a DAIWA Windcast Reel using 48lbs Gator braid.

Bluff – Bigger sized kingfish are on the prowl and have been seen by anglers chasing the bait fish on the incoming and outgoing tides. Early morning risers have also been able to catch a few shad although not as big as those further North.
