Benedict: Bafana to tighten up screws
Updated | By ECR Newswatch

Ephraim “Shakes” Mashaba’s first game at the helm of Bafana Bafana saw them defeating Group A rivals, Sudan 3-0. Bafana are level on 3 points with Congo-Brazzaville who defeated Nigeria 3-2 but top the standings due to superior goal difference.
The 3-0 scoreline suggests Bafana recorded an impressive victory in their opener, but they could have done better. They created a lot of chances they should have converted with Bongani Ndulula being the main culprit and they lost possession cheaply in key areas, especially in the middle of the park.
I couldn’t understand why Oupa Manyisa and Sibusiso Vilakazi started on the bench. Manyisa’s combination with Andile Jali at Orlando Pirates proved a force to be reckoned with in the CAF Champions League campaign. He made an immediate impact after being brought on by creating the third goal and Vilakazi is the current PSL Player-of-the-Season. He came off the bench and scored the first two goals.
I certainly would start with both Vilakazi and Manyisa against the Super Eagles.
Nigeria are the defending AFCON champions and will be firing on all cylinders in an attempt to redeem themselves after losing their opening game. It’s a tough encounter, but Bafana can win if Shakes selects the right players for the game. Our players need to show more aggression in front of goals too.
Bafana will host Nigeria in Cape Town. Kickoff is at 8pm.
