Beach Patrol to wow Durban
Updated | By Gameplan Media
South Africa’s everyday heroes take to the crisp Durban surf on Sunday, 11 July for the second instalment of the popular Red Bull Beach Patrol with the East Coast public set to witness a lifesaving spectacle when the athletes take on the three preliminary rounds before the ironman grand finale.

The event will consist of three preliminary rounds which include a surfski leg, a Malibu board leg and a swim leg. Athletes will be judged on how well they performed in each of these legs to decide whether they qualify for the iron man final which will incorporate all of the mentioned elements as well as a run along the iconic North Beach Pier and a swim to shore.
Spectators have the opportunity to watch the action unfold from the beach, the promenade but probably the most spectator friendly point on the course will be from the pier itself as professional lifesavers and ordinary athletes fight it out for the honours.
“The whole idea is that spectators can see all the action unfold from the pier and we hope that that’s where most of the spectators will watch the event from,” Sportive Director for the Red Bull Beach Patrol Barry Lewin stated.
“We have had such a good response from the athletes and we are expecting a really good day weather wise on Sunday so it should be a great day out,” an excited Lewin added.
The action begins at 9am with defending champion Wiseman Mvubu back to defend his crown with 2015 runner-up Stembiso Mbatha and a fair percentage of the other 75 athletes vying for a spot on the top step of the podium.
