Komphela was unveiled as the new Kaizer Chiefs boss on Wednesday.

According to the Team of Choice chairman, Farook Kadodia, the club has received applications for the job from coaches both locally and internationally.

Former Bafana Bafana striker, Shaun Bartlett, is among those hoping to land the role, Kadodia confirmed.

Bartlett guided fellow KZN club, Golden Arrows, back to the PSL after winning the National First Division title last season.

Kadodia says the board prefers to hire a local mentor.

"It is a process we have to go through. Our first preference is a South African coach obviously failing that we will have to look closely at getting a foreign coach," Kadodia said.

"We will leave applications open until Monday before we start shortlisting," he added.

Under Komphela, United played an attractive brand of football and Kadodia says they want to continue in the same vein.

"We are looking at man management skills. The new coach has got to be a tactician. This is what we had in the past. We have a good technical team assembled now we need someone to take leadership," Kadodia concluded.

Maritzburg begin their season with a MTN8 quarter-final match against Komphela's Kaizer Chiefs.
