Bafana polished without sting

Bafana Bafana displayed exciting football last night against Nigeria in Cape Town. The Nations Cup qualifier ended goalless.

They played with confidence and were attack-minded throughout the game. The players looked like they were given freedom to express themselves without any fear of making mistakes, team spirit was great and they totally outplayed the Super Eagles.

The midfield combination of Dean Furman, Andile Jali and Oupa Manyisa once again proved a force to be reckoned with, remember this is the same combination that got the better of Spain in November last year.

On the right wing they had the on-form Mandla Masango who troubled the opponents. Up front current PSL Player of the year, Sibusiso Vilakazi, was very impressive, however Bongani Ndulula wasn’t too convincing, he failed to take advantage of the opportunities created and his runs off the ball were not of great quality.

Bafana need to keep playing the way they did last night, but the final product must be taken care of. They need to work on their goal-scoring abilities.

A goalless draw was not a true reflection of the game, had our boys kept their cool in front of goal we’d have emerged the victors.

Tokelo Rantie also missed a couple of sitters and the inclusion of great finishers like Kermit Erasmus and Lehlohonolo Majoro could prove to be the difference should they be picked for the trip to Congo next month.

South Africa are now second on the log, with four points, they are two points adrift of log leaders Congo Brazzaville and three points clear of third-placed Nigeria.

Shakes Mashaba’s men will next face Congo in the Congo.
