Amazulu preparing for National First Division
Updated | By Gareth Jenkinson
Usuthu were trying to get back into top flight football by purchasing Mpumalanga Black Aces status but that move was blocked the Premier Soccer League Executive Committee.
Coach Steve Barker says planning for the season has become much easier now that the club knows in which competition they will be playing.
“There was a bit of uneasiness in terms of what is going to happen. Now that it is basically finalized it does help our planning,” Barker said.
He continued, “I always tried to maintain the stance that we would play in the National First Division (NFD).”
Senior players like Marc Van Heerden, Sifiso Hlanti and Robyn Johannes have all been linked to other clubs but the trio are still training with Amazulu.
“Every player has a value. There have been one or two offers for our players but we are not entertaining them because they are below what we want.”
“I am currently having one on one with players. The good thing is that they are committed to getting the club get back into the PSL.”
Barker needs to put together a strong pool of under-23 players.
The NFD rules require teams to start with five under-23 players.
“We held some trials last week and we uncovered one player. We are also looking at players within our structures which we have promoted,” Barker said.
