Amazulu and Celtic share the spoils

Bloemfontein Celtic and AmaZulu cemented themselves in a tight mid-table battle after settling for a goalless draw in their Premiership clash in Botshabelo yesterday.

Celtic made the only real impact up front in the first half, but they fluffed their chances with wayward attempts.

Charging into the area in the 28th minute, Mogogi Gabonamong connected with a cross from Wandisile Letlabika, but his header sailed wide to the left.

And with four minutes left in the opening stanza, Musa Nyatama's direct shot from a free kick was blasted wide to the right.

AmaZulu were far more aggressive in the second period, but they wasted multiple opportunities to bury their hosts.

Marc van Heerden had perhaps the best chance of the match for Usuthu with 14 minutes remaining, but he fired his strike, direct from a set piece, wide to the right from just outside the area.

While the single point was enough for AmaZulu to climb two places up the league standings to sixth position, Celtic remained in ninth spot, despite stretching their unbeaten run to six straight league matches.

"We came here today to fight," said AmaZulu defender Carlington Nyadombo, who was named the Man of the Match.

"These guys are just behind us and they needed three points as much as we did, but we didn't allow them to do that. "Unfortunately we got a draw, which is not what we came here to do, but it's part of the game.

"We can take a draw away from home. It's ok with us."
