Surfers from across the globe have descended on the KwaDukuza coastline for the R2.5-million ASP Prime Mr Price Pro Ballito that starts today.

Surfers can look forward to highly contestable conditions for the start of the event. Clean one-meter waves are expected off Ballito today.

The Mr Price Pro Ballito will feature 83 international surfers including 13 of the Top 34 World Championship Tour competitors. Among these are world number four Jordy Smith (ZAF) and world number 11 Julian Wilson.

Two of South Africa’s most promising up-and-coming talents, Slade Prestwich and Dylan Lightfoot, earned the final two wildcards into this year’s event by winning the ASP Africa Prime trials at the weekend.

The Mr Price Pro Ballito Beach Festival boasts an array of impressive entertainment including the popular Free Music Concerts taking place at Salt Rock from July 4- 6. For more information - including heat results and video highlights - log on to www.mrpricepro.com.

Meanwhile, Southern KZN were crowned champions at the Cool Shoe South African Surfing Championships at New Pier on Sunday.

It is their first ever title in the 48-year history of the event. KZN Central had to settle for third in Durban.

And after a weekend of perfect beach weather, it looks like today is going to be a little cooler with a maximum of 21 degrees, a cloudy start and a 30% chance of light rain later. SW winds of up to 19km/h are forecast for Monday.
