Zweli Mkhize to run for ANC presidency
Updated | By Jarryd Subroyen
ANC Treasurer-General, Zweli Mkhize has confirmed he’ll throw his hat in the ring for the ANC presidential race.
"Branches of the ANC will be nominating candidates during the course of this week. I have been approached that they will to use my name and I have accepted," Mkhize says.
The news comes two months before the party’s crucial elective conference. Speaking to Newswatch, Mkhize says the ANC needs to strengthen its leadership.
"One wants to be part of strengthening the leadership and rebuilding the ANC - ensuring that we build this non-racial South Africa," he says.
Branches of the party are expected to nominate their candidates during the course of this week, with Deputy President Cyril Ramaphosa and former African Union Chairperson, Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma leading the way.
