Zweli Mkhize 'shocked' by elderly PMB man's death
Updated | By Nushera Soodyal
Health Minister, Zweli Mkhize says he's shocked by the death of an elderly Pietermaritzburg man who was kept in a makeshift structure in the parking lot of Northdale Hospital.
67-year-old Sibusiso Khumalo died of hypoxia last week while in the structure set up for COVID-19 patients at the hospital.
There's been a public outcry after his daughter shared a video of the conditions Khumalo and other patients were being kept in at the base.
Health MEC Nomagugu Simelane-Zulu met with the hospital's management yesterday afternoon.

Mkhize says he's waiting for more answers, "I have spoken to the MEC and directed that the matter be urgently investigated. I have already got the first report that they have gone into the area to make sure we find out what is happening," said Mkhize.
"We must actually make sure that actions are taken in this regard. So we await the report the MEC is going to make available by the end of the day."
