Zuma's speech had undertone of defiance: Analyst

A political analyst feels President Jacob Zuma's speech following the Constitutional Court's Nkandla judgement had an underlying tone of defiance.
Zuma addressed South Africans last night after the ConCourt ruled on Thursday that he violated his Constitutional duties by failing to act on the Public Protector's remedial action on non-security upgrades to his northern KZN home.
Political analyst Sanusha Naidu says she doesn't feel the president's apology was sincere.
"The president apologised, but was apologising while saying he did nothing dishonestly. So in a way he is saying 'I did not do anything wrong but I am apologising'," She said.
Naidu feels Zuma's speech and the ANC's briefing ask even more questions.
"What does this mean for us going forward as a nation? Are we a cohesive nation? Can we trust our political offices in power? Can we decide that they will respect the integrity of this institution?,"Naidu said.
