Zuma’s private prosecution against Ramaphosa postponed to February

Former president Jacob Zuma’s private prosecution against President Cyril Ramaphosa has been postponed to February.

He is accusing Ramaphosa of being an accessory after the fact, alleging that leaked medical records during his arms deal trial breached the National Prosecuting Authority Act.
Zuma claims Advocate Billy Downer, the lead prosecutor in his arms deal case, leaked his private medical information to journalist Karyn Maughan.
The State has denied the allegations.

Zuma's private prosecution case against Downer and Maughan was struck off the roll in April.
On Tuesday, Zuma's lawyer, Advocate Dali Mpofu, told the High Court in Johannesburg a postponement would allow for further legal processes and discussions.
"My lord, after discussions in chambers, the proposal is once again that we ask for a long postponement. From April up until now, it has been deliberately long to allow this process to unfold. We would, therefore, ask for an order in terms of section 168 of the Criminal Procedure Act for a further postponement."
