Zuma's pledge to improve education
Updated | By Zongile Mthimkhulu
President Jacob Zuma says it is time for an e-learning revolution in South Africa.
The President launched Operation Phakisa's Information and Communication Technologies campaign in Johannesburg a few moments ago.
The operation is aimed at enhancing the country's standard of basic education through the use of ICT in the classroom.
Maths and science have been categorised as priority areas.
''Those countries that have not invested in education will always be left behind. They will always suffer and be defeated by those who are powerful.
''But those who invest in education, the future will be prosperous. I think as a country we have taken a very wise decision to invest in education not in general terms but in very specific terms to say we want to have smart citizens,'' he said.
South Africa was recently ranked 138th out of 140 countries by the World Economic Forum in terms of maths and science education.
