Updated | By Newswatch
Former president Jacob Zuma's sentence for contempt of court has officially expired.

The Department of Correctional Services says he has been released from its system.
Zuma was jailed in July last year after the Constitutional Court sentenced him to 15 months in prison for defying its order that he testify before the State Capture Commission.

But he served just under two months before he was released on medical parole.
Correctional Services spokesperson Singabakho Nxumalo says the 15-month sentence lapsed on Friday.
"As a department, we are able to affirm that Mr Zuma did comply with his medical parole conditions and was being monitored by our Kranskop Community Corrections."
