In an interview on Soweto TV, the former finance minister says a violation of the key oath of office of the head of state is a deep crisis and 'it's in all of our interest that the president steps aside'.

The call comes a few days after ANC stalwart, Ahmed Kathrada asked Zuma to resign in an open letter.

Here is a snippet of the exclusive interview with Tim Modise.

Manuel has spoken out  about some of the recent decisions taken by Zuma.

In December, he penned an opened letter when the president fired Nhlanhla Nene as head of Treasury and appointing a lesser known David Van Rooyen to the portfolio.

In the letter, addressed to Small Business Development Minister Lindiwe Zulu, he wrote: "The picture I am sketching for you is that the saga of dismissing a competent minister and replacing him without warning or explanation led to a complete breakdown in trust".

The decision saw the rand tumbling, prompting the decision to remove van Rooyen after less than a week at the helm, and recalling Pravin Gordhan to step in as finance minister.

It comes as Zuma has survived yet another parliamentary motion of impeachment against him in the National Assembly today.

The full interview with Manuel will air at 19h30 this evening on Soweto TV on DSTV channel 251.
