Zuma served his time - JGZ Foundation

The Jacob Zuma Foundation has described as bizarre reports that the former president needs to make more submissions on his time in jail.

This after Correctional Services released a statement a few days ago saying that Zuma and other interested parties have until the 4th of August to make representations on whether he should return to prison.

National Commissioner for Correctional Services, Makgothi Thobakgale, will then make a final decision.

Earlier this month, the Constitutional Court upheld a Supreme Court of Appeal judgment that the 81-year-old former leader must serve the remainder of his sentence.

Zuma only served about two months of his 15-month sentence at Estcourt Correctional Centre in 2021 before being released on medical parole.

He was imprisoned for defying a ConCourt order that he give evidence at the inquiry into allegations of state capture.

"The foundation is suspicious that this sudden extension is probably occassioned by political interference of sorts, or the opposing parties need more time to counter the unassailable submission of H.E President Zuma," says the foundation's spokesperson Mzwanele Manyi.

He says the former president made his submission last week to confirm an announcement last year, that he’s completed his full sentence.

"The foundation, however, remains confident that the decision as announced in a media statement on the 7th of October 2022 by the commissioner, without any submissions from President Zuma, was indeed the correct decision. The statement was clear that H.E President Zuma was under the Correctional Services control from the 8th of July 2021 to the 7th of October 2022, as ordered by the Constitutional Court.”
