Zuma resignation calls continue

The National Freedom Party has joined the chorus of calls for a secret ballot in the motion of no confidence in Jacob Zuma as well his removal as president.

The party says this was a resolution that came out of its extended Provincial Working Committee.

Up until now, the NFP has been particularly quiet on the issues around Zuma.

The party's Sabelo Sigudu says this is because they have been preoccupied with internal matters - including squabbles over positions.

"We had some differences - minor differences. Our stand has been clear, it's just that there were misunderstandings about the so-called coalition between the ANC and the NFP which no longer exists according to the NFP," she says.

Meanwhile, ANC veteran Mavuso Msimango says President Zuma could have saved the country millions if he had stepped down long time ago.

He was speaking at the official launch of the Active Citizens Movement in KZN, yesterday.

"Some of us made an attempt to talk to the President after the release of the Madonsela report - to say Mr. President, the Public Protector said you were negligent - not corrupt. If you step down today, we will tell everyone to stop taking you to court," he says.
