Since his first day at the sitting Zuma's legal team had repeatedly disrupted proceedings saying their client - through line of questioning - is being treated as a suspect.

Yesterday the commission did not sit so as to allow for a full day of discussion around a way forward.

Zuma's lawyer Muzi Sikhakhane today told the commission Zuma is pulling out because the feel he will still be subjected to cross examination style of question.

"He was subjected to relentless cross-examination. This was despite the undertaking that he would not be cross-examined. We hold a strong view that it is the Commission that must assure our client that it is still capable of curing what we view as serious procedural deficiencies."

The commission's Advocate Paul Pretorius responded by denying claims by Zuma's legal counsel.

"Once a person appears before the Commission, certain obligations arise. Mr. Zuma and his legal team in effect are asking to be excused from the application of the rules. It's part of the mandate. We have the power to do so and we have the duty to do so."
