Zuma heads to SCA in bid to remove Downer
Updated | By Gcinokuhle Malinga
Former president Jacob Zuma has approached the Supreme Court
of Appeal in an effort to have state prosecutor Billy Downer recused from his
corruption case.
Zuma's bid to remove Downer was dismissed in October.
The Pietermaritzburg High Court last month ruled that the arms deal trial against the former president must go on in April.
His appeal application was denied, with the judge ruling it has no real prospect of success. Zuma accused the advocate of bias and leaking confidential information to journalists, saying he won't be granted a fair trial. The State's denied the allegations.
The spokesperson for the Jacob Zuma Foundation Mzwanele Manyi says they lodged a petition against Judge Piet Koen's decision on Wednesday.

"The foundation's on the fair view that both rulings of Judge Koen were erroneous and riddled with irregularities and glaring misdirections of law and fact.
His Excellency President Zuma is confident that the petition raises very good grounds and interesting constitutional issues which will be answered by the Supreme Court of Appeal when it sits.
"We are therefore highly optimistic that where the law and courts failed, justice will be done in the higher courts."
