Zuma has failed South Africa: Buthelezi
Updated | By Anelisa Kubheka
Inkatha Freedom Party leader, Mangosuthu Buthelezi says President Jacob Zuma has failed the country.
Addressing reporters in Durban today, Buthelezi said his party supports the EFF and DA's call for an urgent Parliamentary sitting to hold a debate on a motion of no confidence against Zuma, after he fired the heads of Treasury, along with other cabinet members last week.
Buthelezi says for the motion to go through, ANC MPs need to come to the party.
"We have said before, and it is common knowledge, Ladies and Gentlemen, that this is a futile exercise - as far as I am concerned - until leaders within the ANC itself find courage to vote with their conscience. Now, the president's midnight decision to recall, appoint and remove 20 ministers and deputy ministers may be a catalyst of change that is needed to see ANC MPs to speak for South Africa," he said.
Buthelezi has also confirmed that the IFP was part of a meeting of opposition party leaders today to plot the way forward following the cabinet reshuffle.
"Leaders of opposition parties met to discuss the leadership crisis in our country and our responsibility as representative of South Africa's people to stand in the gap. The IFP participated in deliberations in the interests of peace and change," Buthelezi said.
Buthelezi says he's also advised the Democratic Alliance against going ahead with their planned march to Luthuli House, fearing it could lead to violence.
