Zuma to face ANC leadership at NEC meeting
Updated | By Troye Lund
An ANC National Executive Committee meeting is set to get underway in Pretoria today in what could be a turning point for the ruling party.
The past few days have been turbulent for the ANC with allegations that the politically connected Gupta family has been making Cabinet job offers to party members.
The DA walked out of Parliament yesterday in protest over the explanations offered by President Jacob Zuma during a question and answer session.
Following this week's revelations from senior ANC leaders about ministerial offers from the Guptas, Zuma’s insistence that no one appoints his ministers except him did not go down well among opposition parties.
This weekend Zuma will face the ANC leadership at its lekgotla.
The question is whether the explanations he gave to Parliament will satisfy the party leadership which has the power to recall him, has raised concerns about a mafia state and which has to come up with a strategy to neutralise the damage that this scandal could do to the party especially in the local government elections.
