Zuma dismissal not on NEC agenda

ANC secretary general Gwede Mantashe says removing President Jacob Zuma as the party's leader is not on the agenda of discussions at a four-day National Executive Committee meeting.

Mantashe says party leaders will discuss coalitions following last week's local government elections.

Several parties, including the EFF, have reportedly demanded that the ANC sack Zuma as a condition for them to enter coalitions with the ruling party.

"I will never go to any political party and put a condition to say ‘remove your leader’. I will never do that. If it is done to us, it is an issue we must deal within the negotiations.

"It doesn't set an agenda for the ANC and the NEC. We're looking into the elections and interpreting all the messages that came through, he said.

Another discussion point at the four-day gathering will be the decline in support from voters following last week's local government elections. The party failed to gain majority votes in some major municipalities such as Tshwane and Johannesburg.
