Zondo Commission: Mokonyane admits to birthday party at guesthouse

Former Minister Nomvula Mokonyane has admitted to the Zondo Commission of Inquiry that she's had a birthday celebration at the Victorian Guest House in Krugersdorp.

Mokonyane accuses Agrizzi of cultural insensitivity in State Capture testimony Nomvula Mokonyane

She'd previously denied having had a 50th birthday party at the venue.

The claim was made by former Bosasa COO, Angelo Agrizzi who told the commission the company paid for Mokonyane's party.

But Agrizzi later corrected his evidence, saying it was a 40th birthday party that was held at the guesthouse for Mokonyane.

The owner of the guesthouse last month confirmed to the commission that a party for Mokonyane had taken place at the venue in 2003.

The former minister has been called back today to clarify her testimony. She's admitted she had a surprise 40th birthday at the guesthouse.

She was questioned about why she had denied that no party for her had ever taken place there...

"What attracted my attention were the assertions made by Mr Agizzi about a 50th birthday with a theme "Break a leg" held at the Victorian Guesthouse," she said.

"I am sure and I want to submit here that Mr Agrizzi said that it was a 40th because you can see in the statement that I did say there has been many parties," said Mokonyane.
