Zondo commission to ask High Court for another extension
The commission of inquiry into state capture will approach the High Court next year for another extension for three months.
Deputy Chief Justice Raymond Zondo confirmed the possible extension of the commission’s work in a media briefing on Monday.
The commission has gone on recess for the year and will resume again in January with Eskom-related testimony.
The High Court has already granted the commission an extension which is supposed to end in March.
Zondo said the commission will need until at least June to complete its work.

"When the national lockdown was instituted, we did not have public hearings, we were not allowed to have them. So, for 3 months, we did not have public hearings which interfered with our plans.
"We had estimated that we would have concluded with oral evidence at the end of this year so that we use January to March 2021 to finalize the report.”
Zondo said the conclusion of Eskom-related testimony will top the agenda in January, as well as parliamentary oversight testimony and the appearance of former president Jacob Zuma.
He confirmed that since its inception in August 2018, the commission has called 287 witnesses and has collected over 51 000 transcripts and 159 109 affidavits.
