Busisiwe Mkhwebane yesterday made public a number of investigations undertaken by her office.

She said Zille had been exposed to a "conflict of interest," and had violated the executive members ethics code when she used her position to benefit her son.

The matter relates to the procurement of computer tablets for a workshop for disadvantaged schools in Khayelitsha in 2014 - run by Zille's son, who was a maths teacher there at the time.

Zille says the revision programmes were given at no charge.

She says to avoid cancelling the workshops due to a lack of digital equipment, she spoke to the Director General who informed her that 150 tablets were available for classes like these.

Zille's son borrowed the tablets for the children and returned them after the holidays.  Zille said she'd also followed the correct channels and wrote to the DG copying other officials about the tablets.

This is what Mkhwebane had to say.

"By intervening in the execution of the contract for the delivery of the computers, in order to ensure that the son can use in these tablets - she exposed herself to a risk of a conflict of interest between her official responsibilities and her private interests," Busisiwe Mkhwebane said.
