He was speaking at the memorial service for six members of Deputy Transport Minister Sindisiwe Chikunga's family.

Her son Khulekani Xaba, his wife Zinhle and four children were killed in a head-on collision on the N11 near Ladysmith a week ago.

The driver of the other vehicle was seriously hurt.

"We see the challenges that we face on our roads. The N11 is one of those that are well-known for accidents."

"If you talk about the N11 and the N1 in Polokwane, you will know about those things. Therefore, we want to say we should join a campaign to ensure that we stop road carnages," says Zikalala.

Monday's service was held at the Durban Cruise Terminal.

Xaba was a planner at Transnet.

His uncle Lindelani Gcaba said Xaba was a loving father and husband who spent a lot of time with his family.

"He was taking his children to different schools himself and take his wife to work. In the afternoon he takes his wife and children back home."
