Youth urged to take interest in SA economy

Deputy President Cyril Ramaphosa is urging the youth to sharpen their knowledge of the economy.
Ramaphosa, in his capacity as deputy president of the African National Congress, addressed members of the ANC Youth League on economic emancipation and the Freedom Charter in Pietermaritzburg last night.
The league's provincial secretary Thanduxolo Sabelo piqued the interest of the crowd, saying they want to see the youth occupy 40% of councillor positions.
To achieve the figure, Ramaphosa said it is important for the youth to understand what drives the economy, giving meaning to the slogan 'economic freedom in our lifetime'.
"The ANC Youth League members must take the trouble to understand economic issues, comrades, because the life that we're trying to give our people is driven by the economy and if we don't take the trouble to understand the economy we'll just be shouting and chanting slogans," he said.
