The South African National Civic Organisation Youth Congress says many young people have made their way to northern KwaZulu-Natal on Wednesday morning.

The 79-year-old Zuma, who has been in hospital, was granted medical parole earlier this month after being jailed for contempt of court.

The Jacob Zuma Foundation called for space for the former president on Wednesday morning, after fielding questions from journalists about his well-being and when he's likely to be discharged.

Thulani Gamede, who's with the Youth Congress, says Zuma remains a symbol of resistance to many young people.

"We maintain that it's unfair all that has happened to president Zuma and looking at the case with Zondo its unfair for a man to be arrested for 15 months with our trial and also for a man of his age to be prosecuted for almost two decades.

"We see this as something that is politically-motivated. President Zuma, you must always know that we as congress, we are mobilising people."
