Youth must 'take active interest in health'
Updated | By Khatija Nxedlana
The chairperson of the District Aids Council says the youth must be proactive about their health.
Thembeka Mchunu has been speaking during a two-day youth dialogue on HIV and Aids held in areas north of KwaZulu-Natal including Nseleni and Empangeni.
Mchunu says they want to encourage frank debate where issues including the use of condoms, sugar daddies and circumcision are discussed freely.
Mchunu says young girls are the most vulnerable.
''Family set ups do affect our children, a girl child needs a father to love and nurture her and if they don't get that father's love, they end up getting involved with sugar-daddies to try and replace that absence.
''We do engage with both mothers and fathers, where we emphasize the importance of being in their children's lives and play their role as parents,'' she said.
