Young achievers make KZN proud
Updated | By Portia Cele
Two KZN champions have brought youth achievement to the fore after being honoured in their respective fields of culinary arts and farming.
A Tongaat sugarcane farmer, will represent the province in a national farming contest hosted by Agri South Africa ( Agri SA) next month.
33-year-old Anthony Goble earned the title of Young Farmer of the Year at KwaNalu's Annual Congress yesterday.
KwaNalu members, entrepreneurs in the agricultural sector, and KZN farmers were in attendance at the announcement.
Goble, who has secured leadership positions in the sugarcane industry, says he is anticipating meeting like-minded young farmers in the nationals.
"I think that KwaNalu ran a great competition that brought out some amazing young farmers to the fore. This, for me, shows that farming in KZN is alive and well and proves that the stereotypes associated with those farmers are not true. We are now dynamic businessman with a unique set of skills," he said.
Another young woman has made our province super proud.
25-year-old Jayde van der Spuy - a senior lecturer at the 1000 Hills Chefs School - was awarded the title of Unilever Chef of the Year yesterday.
Van der Spuy competed against other hopefuls on a national level in the contest accredited by the World Association of Chefs Societies contest.
