World Aids Day: Four KZN districts reach 90-90-90 targets
Updated | By Steve Bhengu
Premier Sihle Zikalala says the 90-90-90 model is bearing fruits with four KwaZulu-Natal districts showing positive results as the world fights to end the HIV/Aids epidemic.
He was speaking in Durban at an event to mark World Aids Day on Wednesday.
Zikalala says with KZN being the HIV/Aids epicentre in South Africa, it's a promising development.
"Three of our districts have surpassed this target of 90-90-90. It started being three but now there are four it was uMkhanyakude, Ugu and uMzinyathi. We have since added the fourth being Harry Gwala."
But Zikalala says they've noticed some regressions, warning these pose a threat to the progress being made.
Under the targets set five years ago at the United Nations General Assembly, 90% of an area’s population will know their HIV status.
Ninety percent of those testing positive are immediately put on treatment and 90% of those on treatment will have viral load suppression.
