Workers' union distances itself from UniZulu torching
Updated | By Lucky Khanyile
Workers' union NEHAWU has distanced itself from the torching that occurred at the University of Zululand (UniZulu) this weekend.
The weeks-long worker protests have been over wages, temporary workers, and outsourcing.
The union's Hlanganisani Jamile says a new offer has been tabled, but workers will remain on strike until a decision is reached.
"University management promised to take our proposals to the university council for consideration. So as a matter of now we are still seated and waiting for council to respond to our demands," he said.
Meanwhile, the UniZulu is holding a stakeholder engagement session today.
