Workers unharmed in Assagay mudslide
Updated | By Sandile Zikhali
Six construction workers have escaped unharmed following a mudslide at a home in Assagay just outside Durban.
Medical response teams raced to a property on Mfishane Street after another worker at another house reported having heard screams.
Meditech ER spokesperson, Derrick Banks says after splitting up - one of the teams gained access to the yard of the affected property and efforts began to try and locate the workers.
He says it was soon established that a foreman had asked the workers to move away before the mudslide came down on them.
They found the mud crashing into the house on the property.
Banks says one of the construction workers was treated for shock. Banks says he suspects the heavy rains from the weekend are too blame for this.
"While we were still on scene - it was raining. You could actually see the amount of water gushing down onto the road as well. Definitely a big role with the amount of rain that we've had."
