Workers demand 8% increase in countrywide Sars strike

Several SARS branches in KwaZulu-Natal are closed today due to a nationwide strike.

Workers affiliated to the Public Servants Association and Nehawu have gathered outside some of the offices.
They've now revised their salary increase demand to 8%.
SARS is offering up to 7%.
PSA provincial manager - Claude Naicker says all of the KZN branches are taking part in the strike - including the customs offices at the airport.
"Our initial demand was 12%. with employee for several months. We have brought the demand. Each employee will get a wage increase," Naicker said.

Naicker added that employees should return to work tomorrow.
"We will go back to work tomorrow. All SARS employees will return to work tomorrow while we try and see if the employee will engage us tomorrow. If they don't engage us tomorrow - then by tomorrow afternoon, we will reassess our position."
