Updated | By Gcinokuhle Malinga
Workers at an engineering company in Pinetown, west of Durban, are downing tools over wage-related issues.
The National Union of Metalworkers of South Africa's spokesperson Phakamile Hlubi-Majola says Jasco Electrical Manufacturers, which produces parts for Defy and KIC, is yet to honour the salary hike agreement reached at the metal engineering industries bargaining council last year.
Three hundred people are employed by the manufacturer.

"The strike secured a 6% increase but the management of the company is refusing to implement. We reject their excuses and we demand the immediate implementation of the increase."
The company's meanwhile seeking a court interdict to halt the work stoppage.
"Instead of negotiating with the union to resolve the strike, they are rushing to court to interdict the strike," says Hlubi-Majola.
