Woolworths ‘wont take sides’ in Israel-Hamas war
Updated | By Lauren Beukes
Woolworths has moved to make its position clear on the Israel-Hamas war.
Since the latest conflict in Gaza began last month, some political leaders and organisations have singled out Woolies, accusing it of supporting Israel by stocking products imported from there.
They called for the retailer to be boycotted.
Pro-Palestine civil rights organisation Africa4Palestine has been one of the groups actively leading a 'Boycott Woolworths' campaign.
This week, the group shared that it received a letter from the retailer's CEO, informing that they are no longer stocking products from Israel.

Africa4Palestine said it welcomed Woolworths' decision, adding it would inform its partners that the Woolies boycott is off.
Woolworths released a statement on Friday, saying it's setting the record straight.
The company says it decided to suspend the sale of the only product it had on its shelves that is imported from Israel in order to protect the safety of employees and customers.
It insists it has not taken any position on the matter, despite some commending them and claiming their decision means they are pro-Palestine or anti-Israel.
The retailer says in a world of misinformation and suffering, and with innocent people being killed, it cannot add fuel to the fire.
