Women's group calls for serious action after Luthuli House assault
Updated | By ECR Newswatch
A women's rights NGO says serious action must be taken against party officials who infringe on women's rights.

People Opposing Women Abuse (POWA) has been commenting after an assault was caught on camera during pro and anti-Zuma marches outside Luthuli House yesterday.
Thabiso Setona, who serves as a branch secretary within the greater Joburg area, was filmed allegedly assaulting an elderly woman during a scuffle.
Setona has since been suspended by the party. The party has distanced itself from the incident - saying Setona will face a disciplinary.
"We get incidents with officials violating women's rights - and they are just reprimanded. It should not end with fines and disciplinary hearings. Anyone who abuses women in any form must be punished accordingly. They must be removed. The Constitution says women's rights are human rights," the organisation's counselling manager, Itumeleng Moloko says.
Meanwhile, the ANC Women's League and the IFP Women's Brigade have condemned the incident - saying Setona and others involved in the scuffle should face the full might of the law.
